Guwahati: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has imposed strict restrictions near the ISBT area in Guwahati ahead of the vote counting scheduled on May4.
District Magistrate Swapneel Paul issued an official order banning firecrackers, fireworks, victory processions, and sloganeering within a 200-metre radius of the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, where the counting of votes will take place.
According to the officials, the restrictions are aimed at ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and transparent counting process. Authorities said that loud celebrations and large gatherings near the counting centre could disturb counting staff, security personnel, candidates, and their authorised agents present at the venue.
The administration also expressed concern that such activities may create law and order issues and interfere with the free and fair counting of votes. Adequate security arrangements will be in place, and strict monitoring will be carried out throughout the counting day.
The prohibitory order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023. Officials confirmed that the restrictions will remain in force on May 4 until the completion of counting and the formal declaration of results.
Authorities have warned that any violation of the order will attract legal action under Section 223 of the same law and other applicable provisions.
Vote counting will be conducted for a tola of 25 candidates across five Assembly constituencies – Dispur, Dimoria, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central and Jalukbari.
The district administration has appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to cooperate with the officials and maintain discipline. Citizens have also been urged to avoid gathering near the counting centre and to follow all guidelines to ensure a peaceful environment.
